Elko Nevada Temple Dedicated as Nevada’s Third Latter-day Saint Temple

The new temple will serve about 12,000 members across six northeastern counties.

Overview

  • Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicated the temple on Sunday, Oct. 12.
  • Stevenson said the proceedings were conducted under direction from President Dallin H. Oaks during a leadership transition, a circumstance last seen at a temple dedication in 1888.
  • The temple district spans roughly 51,389 square miles, reducing long trips that previously took members to temples in Idaho, Utah or California.
  • A public open house ran from Aug. 30 to Sept. 13 and drew civic and interfaith leaders, with local leaders reporting renewed participation.
  • Elko joins operating temples in Las Vegas and Reno as work progresses on the recently groundbroken Lone Mountain temple.
