Elizabeth Holmes Wins Another Delay of Prison Sentence Pending Appeal

Elizabeth Holmes avoided reporting to prison this week after filing an appeal of the court's order for her to begin serving her 11-year sentence.
The appeals court granted an automatic delay in her surrender date to consider her request to remain free on bail during her appeal process.
Holmes was found guilty of defrauding investors in her company Theranos but acquitted of charges relating to defrauding patients who used Theranos' blood testing services.
Her former partner and Theranos executive Sunny Balwani was also granted a delay in reporting to prison using the same legal maneuver but was ultimately denied bail pending his appeal.
Experts say Holmes faces an uphill battle with her appeal given the trial judge's decision to give her lawyers substantial leeway in presenting her defense during the trial.
