Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament Kicks Off in Hyderabad

Organisers aim for the five-day event to bolster India’s domestic boxing structure through elite camp slots for medalists

Overview

  • The tournament runs June 27–July 1 at Hyderabad’s Saroornagar Indoor Stadium with boxers from 15 units competing across 10 weight categories
  • Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen and former youth champion Ankushita Boro lead a field of more than 100 contenders
  • Gold and silver medallists in each category will earn selection for the elite national camp in Patiala
  • The event builds on India’s recent one silver and five bronze haul at the Thailand Open 2025 and feeds into preparations for the World Boxing Cup finale
  • All bouts follow World Boxing Technical and Competition Rules with three three-minute rounds under a 10-point must scoring system
