Elementary School Teacher Found Dead in Burnt Vehicle, Suspect Arrested

Matthew Switalski, previously charged with rape, is now accused of murdering Veronica Aguilar, whose body was discovered in his garage.

Veronica Aguilar, a 27-year-old elementary school teacher and UCLA graduate, was found dead in the trunk of a burnt vehicle in the garage of a home owned by Matthew Switalski.
Switalski, a 37-year-old accountant, was arrested in connection with Aguilar's death and is currently being held on a $10 million bond.
Neighbors reported hearing a woman's scream and an explosion from Switalski's home hours before the fire broke out.
Switalski was previously arrested and charged with several counts of rape and sexual misconduct with a romantic partner in the spring, and was out on bail at the time of Aguilar's death.
The cause of Aguilar's death and the events leading up to it are still under investigation.
