Election Roll Overhaul Tightens Timelines: Kerala Extended, Bengal Pushed to Jan. 19, Tamil Nadu Window Closes

State-level schedules and documentation rules are drawing fresh scrutiny as parties urge safeguards against wrongful voter exclusions.

Overview

  • Kerala’s claims-and-objections period under the Special Intensive Revision has been extended to January 30 following an Election Commission notification issued after a Supreme Court advisory and a request from the State’s Chief Electoral Officer.
  • West Bengal’s deadline to submit Forms 6, 7 and 8 now runs through January 19, and the Election Commission has reiterated that the Madhyamik (Class X) admit card will not be accepted for verification.
  • Tamil Nadu closed its local revision window on January 18, reporting around 9.7 million deletions during verification and about 1.28 million inclusion applications, with the final roll slated for publication on February 17.
  • The Election Commission has urged voters in states such as Assam to verify entries and file applications by January 22, while opposition parties, including the CPI and CPI(M) in Kerala, allege flaws and press for inclusion of all eligible citizens.
  • In Madhya Pradesh, the Congress has ordered intensified booth-level monitoring and plans formal complaints over alleged irregularities before the January 22 cutoff, and in J&KLadakh officials indicate a likely full-scale revision in April–May focused on verification.
