Overview
- The Election Commission on Friday directed chief electoral officers in Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana and Nagaland to give electors marked Absent, Shifted, Dead or Duplicate a fresh chance to submit enumeration forms for inclusion in final SIR rolls.
- Officials must display booth‑wise lists of ASDD electors again and use Booth Level Officers, the ECINET platform and phone or WhatsApp to deliver partially filled or fresh enumeration forms to affected voters.
- The ECI told voters who moved within the same state they need not file Form 8 and can submit an enumeration form with a prescribed statement and address proof; homeless applicants can be verified by BLO field reports.
- The Bombay High Court has ordered that Form 8 requests be processed during SIR and restored six Goa voters, creating a legal precedent that courts can require on‑the‑spot remedies for deleted names.
- Separately the ECI set SSR schedules for six regions with January 1, 2027 as the qualifying date and fixed draft and final publication windows, a step intended to stabilise rolls ahead of major polls after SIR produced very large deletions such as nearly 10 million names in Karnataka.
