Election Commission Arrives in Patna to Review Bihar Poll Preparedness

The on-ground review positions the Commission to finalize a multi-phase schedule before the Assembly term ends on November 22.

Overview

  • Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Vivek Joshi and S. S. Sandhu reached Patna on Friday night for a two-day assessment on October 4–5, with meetings planned with parties, police and district officials.
  • Earlier in New Delhi, the EC briefed 425 Central Observers at IIIDEM, instructing them to act as impartial “eyes and ears” and remain accessible to voters and candidates.
  • The final electoral roll from the Special Intensive Revision was published on September 30 with nearly 7.42 crore electors after large-scale deletions and subsequent additions.
  • Opposition parties have attacked the revision and pursued court challenges, while the Commission says no eligible voter will be left out and no ineligible name retained.
  • Officials indicate the poll timetable will be announced soon, with voting expected in multiple phases before November 22.
