Overview

  • The Xunta de Galicia has committed to finance 38% (around €12 million) of the tunnel’s total cost following talks with the Vigo city council.
  • Dirección Xeral de Patrimonio Cultural issued a favorable basic-project report subject to further archaeological intervention and detailed execution planning.
  • The approved design preserves the 17th-century Falperra bastion by bifurcating the tunnel into two parallel vials that create a protected island for heritage remains.
  • Vigo’s Concello must now finalize the detailed construction plans and solidify the cost-sharing framework before the works can proceed.
  • Once complete, the extension will link Policarpo Sanz/Elduayen with Torrecedeira under the Paseo de Alfonso to relieve chronic traffic bottlenecks.
