Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Launches on Nintendo Switch 2

Bundling the base game with Shadow of the Erdtree, the release doubles as a technical test for the Switch 2 and adds paid new content for other platforms.

Overview

  • FromSoftware and BANDAI NAMCO released Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 last Friday, packaging the original game together with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
  • The Switch 2 release adds two new starting classes (Heavy Knight and Idus Knight), four new armor sets, and three new Torrent appearance options that are included in the Tarnished Edition.
  • Those same additions are available on PC and existing consoles as the paid Tarnished Pack DLC priced at €4.99 and require players to install update 1.17 to access the new content.
  • The port was delayed after early Switch 2 builds showed performance problems at Gamescom 2025 and reviewers note the Switch 2 version makes visible technical trade-offs in resolution and frame-rate to run the game.
  • The launch is expected to boost player activity across Elden Ring’s large community given the franchise’s 30 million-plus sales and the new content’s appeal to returning and new players.
