Elden Ring: Nightreign Drops Iconic Player Messaging System

FromSoftware confirms the removal of the beloved feature due to the game's new fast-paced, session-based design.

  • Elden Ring: Nightreign will not include the player messaging system featured in previous FromSoftware titles like Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
  • Director Junya Ishizaki explained that the 40-minute session structure leaves little time for players to write or read messages.
  • The game retains other social elements, such as the ability to see the ghosts of fellow players and collect loot from their remains.
  • Nightreign focuses on a condensed, fast-paced RPG experience with three-player co-op and a new structure set across three in-game days.
  • A network test for the game is scheduled for February 2025, with signups opening on January 10, ahead of the full release later this year.
