El Gallinato Marks 49 Years With Community Remembrance in Salta

Teachers and students highlighted the school’s duty to teach truth and justice during the remembrance at the El Gallinato site.

  • The municipality’s annual commemoration is institutionalized by ordinances 595 and 798, with support from the Mesa salteña de Derechos Humanos, the Liga Argentina por los Derechos Humanos and the Asociación Miguel Ragone.
  • Speakers reiterated unresolved accountability dating to the dictatorship, noting documented investigative failures and judicial indifference at the time, Megacausa findings that many victims were dynamited at El Gallinato, and an estimate of at least 18 people killed there.
