Eisbären Berlin's Khodorenko Out for Season With Knee Injury, Nieleck Registered on Förderlizenz

Berlin faces tighter roster flexibility following the recent use of a foreign-player license on the American forward.

Overview

  • Patrick Khodorenko suffered a serious knee injury during the 3–0 win at Ingolstadt and will undergo surgery soon, the club said.
  • Khodorenko had joined about a week and a half ago, costing Berlin one of its eleven foreign-player licenses, and logged one goal and two assists in four DEL games.
  • Sporting director Stéphane Richer called the setback a shock and praised Khodorenko’s quick impact before the injury.
  • Eisbären have registered 21-year-old Lennard Nieleck from Lausitzer Füchse on a Förderlizenz, describing him as physically strong and capable at center or wing after 48 DEL appearances for Augsburg and Iserlohn.
  • Berlin plays Frölunda Göteborg in the Champions Hockey League on Tuesday evening as the injury-hit roster adjusts to the latest loss.
