- Eisbären Berlin announced on Sept. 2 that forward Maxim Schäfer will join the Saguenéens de Chicoutimi on loan in the QMJHL.
- The German club said his contract in Berlin will be paused for the duration of his stay in Canada.
- Sport director Stéphane Richer noted the team had planned to keep him for the new season but granted the request from the player and his agent to play in Quebec.
- Schäfer was drafted 96th overall by the Washington Capitals in 2025, the earliest-selected German in this year’s NHL Draft.
- The 18-year-old debuted in the DEL last season with 37 appearances for Eisbären, recording one goal and two assists after joining the Eisbären Juniors in 2022.
