Einride Orders 500 Tesla Semis for U.S. Freight Network

The deal aims to convert about $800 million in potential annual recurring revenue through third-party financing via Einride’s Saga AI.

Overview

  • Einride announced Tuesday that it will deploy 500 Tesla Semi trucks across California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois and Georgia in phases starting in September and running over 24 months.
  • The trucks will be managed on Einride’s Saga AI fleet platform to carry Amazon freight and work for other shippers on concentrated middle-mile routes, with drivers operating the rigs rather than full autonomy.
  • Einride says the purchase is fully financed by third-party solutions but has not named lenders or disclosed financing terms or whether depot charging is included in the package.
  • The rollout triples Einride’s electric truck fleet and follows the company’s first-half report of $27 million in revenue and a stock jump of about 18 percent after the announcement.
  • The commitment is the largest public Tesla Semi deployment to date but hinges on Tesla’s unclear Semi production pace and 4680 battery cell output plus the buildout of Megacharger and depot charging capacity for reliable operations.
