Eikando Tests Expanded Maple Light-Up Ahead of Nov. 15 Opening

Lighting has been installed to reach the back of the garden, offering a different nighttime experience.

Overview

  • A trial lighting was conducted on November 7 at Eikando Zenrin-ji in Kyoto’s Sakyo Ward.
  • About 700 fixtures illuminated roughly 3,000 maple trees, including Iroha, Yama, and Oomomiji varieties.
  • The night viewing is scheduled for November 15 to December 10, with reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Admission is ¥700 for visitors junior-high age and older, and the lights are switched off at 9 p.m.
  • Temple steward Tomonaga Shinko said the revised setup aims to change the atmosphere by lighting deep into the garden.
