Eight Still Hospitalized in Oaxaca After Interoceanic Train Derailment, IMSS-Bienestar Says

Earlier IMSS counts put the nationwide total of hospitalized patients at 11 following transfers outside the state.

  • IMSS-Bienestar reported six discharges from the Salina Cruz hospital on Dec. 30 and said eight patients remain hospitalized in Oaxaca: three in Salina Cruz, three at the Regional High-Specialty Hospital, and two at Hospital General “Dr. Aurelio Valdivieso.”
  • As of Dec. 30, IMSS director Zoé Robledo said 45 passengers had been treated in total and 11 remained hospitalized nationwide.
  • Robledo’s breakdown at that time placed seven patients in Salina Cruz and three in Coatzacoalcos, with another patient receiving care in Mérida.
  • The Navy transferred a minor, Astrid Jimena, to Mexico City’s Hospital de Pediatría del Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI for specialized pediatric care.
  • Authorities said three patients with fractures have already undergone successful surgeries, including a 3-year-old girl operated on in Salina Cruz, and specialists in traumatology and cardiothoracic care are evaluating cases at the high-specialty hospital in Oaxaca.
