Eight Killed in Separate New Year’s Day Crashes in Madhya Pradesh

Officials link the Seoni deaths to a high-speed strike on a truck under repair, with Katni police pursuing a hit-and-run inquiry.

Overview

  • A husband, wife, and their two children died when their motorcycle hit a broken-down, parked truck near Ridditek on the Jabalpur–Nagpur highway in Seoni around 7 p.m.
  • Police identified the Seoni victims as Parmanand Barkade, Geeta Barkade, and their children Mahi, 8, and Deepanshu, 4, and said warning indicators had been placed around the truck.
  • In Katni, a pickup carrying tomatoes collided with a motorcycle carrying four people between Heerapur and Badgaon near the Salaiya outpost at roughly the same time.
  • Three people in the Katni crash died at the scene and a fourth died at the Rithi community centre, according to Rithi SHO Mohammad Shahid.
  • Police said the Katni pickup driver fled and later abandoned the vehicle, and the deceased riders have not yet been identified but are likely from Panna district based on the motorcycle’s registration.
