Eight in 10 Argentines Reduce Spending as Economic Strain Intensifies

Public rejection of recent social vetoes reflects mounting discontent over income shortfalls alongside deepening political divides

  • 46.3% of households say their income is insufficient to cover monthly expenses, including 29.6% facing some difficulty and 16.7% great difficulty.
  • Vetoes on the disability emergency, pension increases and salary hikes at Hospital Garrahan are opposed by 67.4%, 66.5% and 65.1% of respondents respectively.
  • Support for the vetoes splits sharply by party, with La Libertad Avanza and PRO voters largely in favor and Unión por la Patria voters opposed by over 90%, as one-third of respondents claim no political affiliation and right/conservative identification rises among men and those under 40.
  • Opinion on privatizing AySA is narrowly divided, with 45.2% in favor and 47.6% opposed.
