Thailand’s AAM sandbox will use the Bangkok flight to shape rules for future passenger eVTOL operations.

Overview

  • The autonomous two-seat EH216-S conducted a November 24 demonstration at Siam Commercial Bank’s headquarters in Bangkok under the AAM Sandbox Initiative.
  • CAAT Director General Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon rode the pilotless aircraft, reported as the first time a civil aviation regulator has flown on an urban autonomous eVTOL.
  • EHang said the aircraft completed multiple takeoffs, landings and route flights smoothly before senior officials, business leaders and media representatives.
  • Thai authorities and EHang said ongoing sandbox evaluations will inform safety frameworks and a pathway to passenger service, which remains pending regulatory approval.
  • EHang plans to extend demonstrations with local partners to Pattaya, Phuket and Koh Samui, while Asian Aviation reported on-site safety validations and technical exchanges with CAAT.
