• Egon Coordes died Tuesday at age 80 after a prolonged illness at his home in Memmingen, his family confirmed.
• As a defender for Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart, he made 157 Bundesliga appearances before retiring in 1976.
• From the mid-1980s to the early 1990s and again in 1997, he assisted Udo Lattek, Jupp Heynckes and Giovanni Trapattoni at Bayern Munich, contributing to title wins in 1985, 1986, 1989 and 1990.
