Overview
- Environment and Climate Change Canada confirmed a tornado touched down in the Northgate/Oxbow/Alameda area on Tuesday night and gave it a preliminary EF3 rating.
- Storm chasers and the Northern Tornadoes Project documented severe, localized damage at farmsteads, including tossed vehicles, a heavily damaged house, destroyed barns and missing grain bins.
- Observers timed the twister on the ground for about 20 to 26 minutes, and officials say the tornado may have produced a track of roughly 40 kilometres and possibly crossed into the United States.
- The larger storm system also produced very large hail, heavy rain that caused localized flooding in Regina and southern Manitoba, and damaging wind gusts in several Saskatchewan communities.
- Authorities and researchers say a lengthy on-the-ground damage assessment and investigation are under way, with recovery work and cleanup already reported in affected towns and farms.
