EESL Launches National Efficient Cooking Programme to Push Induction Cooking

EESL's offer could cut indoor combustion by making induction cooking more affordable.

Overview

  • Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has unveiled the National Efficient Cooking Programme to expand electric cooking from institutions into household kitchens.
  • As part of the launch, EESL is selling a 1,200W induction cooktop with compatible cookware for ₹6,990 per unit, inclusive of taxes, as a mass-market consumer offer.
  • EESL says induction removes open flames and indoor combustion, reducing fire and gas-leak risks and giving greater temperature control and a cleaner kitchen environment.
  • The agency cites an appliance-to-vessel energy transfer of about 85% for induction versus roughly 40% for LPG and says household savings will depend on local electricity tariffs and LPG prices.
  • The NECP builds on state-level pilots in places such as Bihar, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh and will rely on state rollout and tariff signals to determine broader adoption and measurable savings.
