Overview

  • EE’s Safer SIMs will launch in August with three tiered SIM-only plans for under-18s priced from £7 per month.
  • Each plan includes network-level content filters, throttled speeds, scam call protection and data controls to block inappropriate content and limit usage.
  • Over 400 EE stores nationwide now offer bookable 30-minute safety consultations with trained Guides and access to a P.H.O.N.E Chat resource developed with Internet Matters.
  • The rollout coincides with the July 25 enforcement of the Online Safety Act and Ofcom’s Protection of Children Codes to strengthen child online safety.
  • Critics warn that built-in smartphone parental controls and VPN workarounds may undermine the effectiveness of EE’s network-level restrictions.
