Education Union Files Complaint Over Lecornu’s Degree Claim as He Moves to Sue for False Accusation

The CJR complaints panel must now decide whether to advance the case.

Overview

  • Snapen filed a complaint on September 29 to the Cour de justice de la République’s commission des requêtes alleging Sébastien Lecornu presented himself as holding a public law master’s degree he did not complete.
  • Lecornu disputes the allegation as an artificial controversy and says he will file a counter-complaint against Snapen for defamatory denunciation, according to his office.
  • Mediapart reported in mid-September that profiles and public biographies had credited Lecornu with a two‑year master’s degree, which he had not obtained.
  • In an interview with Le Parisien, Lecornu said he validated a maîtrise in law, equivalent to a master 1, at Université Panthéon‑Assas.
  • After scrutiny, his official site now lists only “law studies” at Panthéon‑Assas while his LinkedIn still notes “Master, public law, 2005–2008,” and Snapen’s lawyer argues the issue is one of transparency rather than required qualifications.
