Overview
- On June 6, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan chaired a consultative committee in Indore to endorse a shift toward Indian and local languages as the primary teaching medium.
- Higher education bodies are already introducing regional-language programmes with IITs launching technical courses, AICTE approving local-language engineering at about 40 colleges, and the Bar Council offering law in Hindi.
- Medical education is now available in Hindi in Madhya Pradesh and similar regional adaptations are planned in other states.
- Bhasha Sangam materials will enable students to learn 100 key sentences in 22 constitutionally recognized languages drawn from 1,369 identified mother tongues.
- Technology-driven solutions including AI-based translation tools and AI-enabled classrooms will support students from rural areas in understanding academic content.
