Overview
- The Ministry announced Tuesday that the National Scholarship Portal will accept NMMSS 2026‑27 applications until September 30, 2026, and set institute (L1) verification by October 15 and district (L2) verification by October 31.
- Students must complete a one‑time registration (OTR) on the NSP before applying and then secure institute and district nodal‑officer verification to keep their applications eligible for selection and payment.
- So far about 79,398 fresh and 187,208 renewal applications are on the portal, and the extension aims to reduce last‑minute errors and increase valid participation before verification deadlines.
- The scheme gives 100,000 fresh Class 9 scholarships each year of Rs 12,000 per student, continues by renewal through Class 12, and pays selected students directly into bank accounts by DBT through PFMS.
- Eligibility is limited to students in state government, government‑aided and local body schools with parental income up to Rs 3.5 lakh and at least 55% in Class 7 (5% relaxation for SC/ST), and the Ministry urged students and nodal officers to complete verification on time.
