Edomex Enacts Traffic Rule Overhaul With Tiered Fines Tied to Driver History

At launch, authorities will apply only the minimum tier as drivers adapt to the new system.

Overview

  • The updated regulation took effect on November 25 and, during the introductory period, every ticket will be issued at the minimum level regardless of a driver's prior infractions.
  • Fixed fines are replaced by minimum, medium and maximum tiers based on unpaid violation history, enforced by traffic agents and automated cameras with automatic escalation to the maximum after four or more unpaid tickets.
  • Payment can be made on the spot via handheld card terminals, at authorized convenience stores or banks, or through the Infracción Transparente portal on the state security website.
  • Infractions detected by Mexibús technology for invading the confined lane or speeding in the adjacent lane qualify for a 50% discount if paid within 15 business days.
  • For vehicles with plates from outside the State of Mexico, agents may retain the circulation card, driver’s license or a plate to guarantee payment, recoverable at the nearest Administrative Services office.
