Overview

  • The Hřensko municipal council approved resuming guided boat rides after initially planning to keep the gorge closed until 2027.
  • Tours were halted in summer 2022 due to heightened rockfall hazards following a severe forest fire in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
  • The Edmundsklamm gorge, carved by the river Kamenice, forms part of the 80-square-kilometre Bohemian Switzerland National Park.
  • The suspension deprived the local community of revenue from the 400,000 visitors who toured the gorge in 2019.
  • Located roughly 40 kilometres southeast of Dresden, the gorge is a major cross-border attraction for Czech and German tourists.
