• ASIRT announced that Sgt. Neil Thompson has been charged with aggravated assault, with the charge laid Sept. 4 and a first court appearance set for Oct. 15 in Edmonton.
• Thompson was released on an undertaking as the case moves into the criminal court process.
• The March 1, 2024 incident followed 911 reports of a stabbing outside a west Edmonton pub and a witness trailing a suspect truck that reportedly tried to make contact with the follower’s vehicle.
• ASIRT and EPS accounts say a police vehicle collided with the suspect truck to stop it and an officer then fired a service pistol, wounding the driver with non-life-threatening injuries.
• The Edmonton Police Association says the member has legal representation, and EPS continues related criminal investigations into the stabbing and reported vehicle ramming.
