Travis Dermott, 27, joins the Oilers on a one-year, two-way contract after playing 50 games with the Arizona Coyotes last season.
The Oilers have also loaned forwards Matt Savoie and Cameron Wright to the AHL's Bakersfield Condors.
Edmonton, last season's Stanley Cup finalists, will begin their regular season against the Winnipeg Jets.
