Edmonton Imposes Phase 1 Parking Ban to Speed Snow Clearing After Holiday Storms

The move targets priority routes following a record December snowfall.

Overview

  • Parking restrictions start 7 a.m. Sunday and are expected to last three to five days as round-the-clock plowing continues.
  • Parking is prohibited on arterial, collector, bus and business routes, with $250 fines and possible towing for violations.
  • The city will issue a separate notice to end the ban or, if needed, escalate to a Phase 2 that includes residential and industrial streets.
  • December brought seven notable snowfalls, and the airport recorded 48.2 cm by Boxing Day, the highest December total on record there.
  • A warmup to about 4 C on Monday is forecast, and residents can track clearing status and when parking resumes via the Roadways Snow Clearing Map and alerts.
