Overview
- The Culture and Communities Committee approved reintroducing and widening firework control zones for a two‑year period.
- The restrictions will apply from October 31 to November 9 in Balerno, Calton Hill, Niddrie, Seafield, Moredun, Gracemount, Longstone, Sighthill and Corstorphine.
- The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland welcomed the decision, saying fireworks very likely contributed to baby red panda Roxie’s death and may have played a role in her mother Ginger’s death in 2024.
- Police cited serious disorder in parts of the city on Bonfire Night last year, including incidents in Niddrie, Gracemount and Moredun.
- RZSS is backing calls to ban public sales of fireworks and to use drone or light displays at organised events.
