Edenbridge Unveils 11-Metre Keir Starmer Effigy for Bonfire Night

Organisers say the satirical choice marks a return to the event’s roots ahead of the November 8 torchlit parade.

Overview

  • The giant figure of the prime minister was revealed in Edenbridge, Kent, and will serve as the centrepiece for the town’s Bonfire Night on November 8.
  • The effigy holds a burning torch and a clipboard reading "SUCK UP TO TRUMP," wears a Guy Fawkes-style ruff and flip-flops, and features a 'farmer harmer' badge and a belt digital ID labeled "Guy Fawkes."
  • Designers included in-jokes such as a string of sausages referencing a Starmer verbal slip, and said selecting and portraying subjects has become more sensitive each year.
  • Unveiled at a press event and then dismantled for final prep, the display is expected to draw around 10,000 spectators, with more than 500 people taking part in the torchlit parade.
  • Edenbridge has burned satirical effigies since the mid-1990s, previously lampooning figures like Donald Trump and Liz Truss, and this year’s shortlist also included Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, Andrew Tate, Baroness Michelle Mone and Angela Rayner.
