Eden Project Loss Doubles as Visitor Numbers Fall and 75 Jobs Are Cut

Management points to inflation alongside higher employer national insurance as the main pressures.

Overview

  • Newly filed accounts show a pre-tax loss of about £3.5m for the year to 31 March 2025, up from £1.5m, with turnover slipping to roughly £23.1m from £24.2m.
  • Annual attendance fell 10% to 543,000, well below pre-pandemic levels when the site regularly drew more than one million visitors.
  • The organisation undertook a “major restructuring” in early 2025 that removed around 75 roles to cut employment costs and improve efficiency.
  • Reported running and administrative costs have climbed by more than £6m since 2019 to about £31.5m, with the accounts citing broader inflation and higher employer NI contributions.
  • Eden Project Morecambe remains in plan, with construction expected to start in 2026 and opening targeted for late 2028, backed by significant public funding and a design team led by WSP and Grimshaw.
