Edeka Winds Down Standalone ‘Naturkind’ Stores After Dinkelsbühl Closure

The retailer is moving the Naturkind range into existing Edeka stores following the Dinkelsbühl closure.

Overview

  • The Naturkind bio supermarket in Dinkelsbühl closed permanently at the end of September after a farewell message from the store team on September 25.
  • Its organic assortment has been folded into the neighboring Edeka-Center Ammon, where a branded Naturkind-Welt has been in place since September 29.
  • Fixtures and equipment from the closed Dinkelsbühl site are being auctioned on Restlos.com in 127 lots, with bidding due to end on October 16.
  • Edeka’s plan for standalone Naturkind markets never expanded beyond about four locations, and Munich is now the only city with an independent Naturkind shop.
  • Even as it consolidates Naturkind into in-store zones, Edeka has opened a major logistics center in Marktredwitz that is expected to create around 600 jobs.
