• Eddie Murphy announced on July 28 during a Today show interview that he will star as Inspector Jacques Clouseau in the upcoming Pink Panther reboot.
• Amazon MGM Studios has placed the film in early development with Jeff Fowler directing and producers Dan Lin, Julie Andrews, Larry Mirisch and Jonathan Eirich attached.
• Murphy indicated his Clouseau will be Black and possibly of Haitian descent, introducing a new cultural lens to the traditionally French character.
• The franchise dates back to Peter Sellers’s 1963 original and was last rebooted by Steve Martin in 2006 and 2009.
• In addition to the Pink Panther role, Murphy has already begun work on Shrek 5 and is preparing to portray funk legend George Clinton in a forthcoming biopic.
