Karen Kilgour, leader of Newcastle City Council, praised Howe’s transformative leadership and initiated his nomination, which awaits council ratification.
The Freedom of the City is Newcastle’s highest civic honor, previously awarded to figures such as Alan Shearer, Sir Bobby Robson, and Nelson Mandela.
