EDA Selects Airbus’s Survey Copter for €1.1 Million, 48-Month M2UAS Drone Program

The early-stage award launches a 12-month requirements study guiding upgrades to the modular CAPA-X platform.

Overview

  • Work starts with a yearlong analysis of current and future military needs that will shape technical choices in later phases.
  • CAPA-X serves as the baseline platform with a 120 kg weight, up to 20 kg payload, a 100 km data link, and roughly 10 hours of endurance.
  • Planned mission expansions include intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, electronic warfare, aerial effects deployment, and potential automated in-flight refuelling.
  • The project is intended to help define interoperable European drone architectures and bolster regional uncrewed aerial systems capabilities.
  • Survey Copter operates under Airbus Helicopters within Airbus, and Airbus shares in Paris rose about 1.19% at the time of the announcement.
