ED Tightens Chhattisgarh Liquor Probe as Asset Attachments Climb to ₹382.32 Crore

A supplementary complaint describes a parallel excise system that allegedly generated ₹2,883 crore between 2019 and 2023.

Overview

  • Fresh provisional attachments include ₹38.21 crore linked to former excise commissioner Niranjan Das and 30 officials and ₹68.16 crore tied to three distilleries, the ED said.
  • The agency’s filing on December 26 added 59 names, taking the case to 81 accused spanning senior bureaucrats, political figures and private operators.
  • Investigators outline four money streams comprising inflated landing-price commissions, off-the-books country liquor sales using duplicate holograms, cartel payments from distillers and FL-10A licences used to extract commissions from foreign brands.
  • The ED alleges 60,50,950 off-the-book cases were supplied between April 2019 and June 2022, with field officers paid ₹140 per case and Niranjan Das accruing over ₹18 crore including a ₹50 lakh monthly bribe.
  • Nine individuals have been arrested under PMLA-linked provisions to date, while proceedings and challenges to the provisional attachments continue.
