ED Seizes Rs 45 Lakh in Bengal Civic Hiring Probe, Raids 13 Sites Including Sujit Bose’s Office

Court-ordered investigations have advanced to ED scrutiny of money flows tied to firms linked to minister Sujit Bose.

Overview

  • ED said Friday’s searches at 13 locations tied to the municipal recruitment case yielded Rs 45 lakh in cash, property documents and digital devices.
  • Sites included the minister’s Salt Lake office, premises of his firms and eateries, and locations linked to associates such as South Dum Dum vice-chairman Nitai Dutta and a chartered accountant.
  • Investigators are examining fund flows into businesses linked to Sujit Bose and his son between 2016 and 2020 after recovering what officials described as incriminating documents.
  • The probe follows a CBI FIR registered on a Calcutta High Court directive, with the CBI preparing a new charge sheet after alleging pay-for-jobs across several municipalities at about Rs 50,000 per hire.
  • ED teams also conducted searches the same day in a separate case involving an alleged Rs 1,200 crore bank loan fraud by a jewellery company, as Bose rejected the actions as politically motivated.
