ED Seeks FIR Over Alleged Cash-for-Jobs Racket in Tamil Nadu MAWS Recruitment

The agency has sent a 232-page dossier to the state DGP seeking an FIR that would enable a money laundering probe.

Overview

  • An ED letter dated October 27 invoked PMLA Section 66(2) to share evidence and request that Tamil Nadu Police register a predicate offence.
  • The agency alleges bribes of Rs 25–35 lakh per post, routed in cash through hawala, to favour about 150 candidates in hiring for 2,538 posts.
  • The ED says the material surfaced during April 2025 searches in a bank-fraud probe tied to True Value Homes and a relative of Minister K.N. Nehru.
  • Chief Minister M.K. Stalin handed appointment letters on August 6, and the state police have not announced whether an FIR will be filed.
  • Minister K.N. Nehru and the DMK deny wrongdoing and call the charges political, as AIADMK, BJP and PMK demand an FIR or CBI probe; a Madras High Court order recently quashed the ED’s ECIR in the related bank-fraud matter.
