Overview
- Multiple ED teams launched early-morning searches at at least 11 locations, including Salt Lake, Nagerbazar, Kankurgachi, Lake Town, Girish Park and Sarat Bose Road.
- An office of West Bengal fire and emergency services minister Sujit Bose in Salt Lake was among the premises searched, according to an ED official.
- The agency also searched the residence of South Dum Dum municipality vice-chairman Nitai Dutta and an auditor’s home in Kankurgachi.
- The action stems from a probe into alleged irregular hiring across several municipalities after a Calcutta High Court order led the CBI to register an FIR.
- CBI submissions to the high court last year cited irregularities in more than 1,800 appointments since 2014 across 17 civic bodies, and ED had previously raided Bose’s premises in January 2024.
