ED Raids 17 Sites in Kerala and Tamil Nadu in Luxury-Car Smuggling Probe

  • Searches covered homes and offices of Mammootty, his son Dulquer Salmaan, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, according to reports.
  • The ED said it was acting under FEMA and flagged prima facie breaches of Sections 3, 4 and 8 tied to unauthorised foreign-exchange transactions.
  • Investigators alleged forged documents linked to the Army, the US Embassy and the MEA enabled fraudulent RTO registrations in states such as Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
  • The agency issued a public statement before searches concluded, and an ED team also went to Wayfare Films in Chennai with CRPF support, according to India Today.
  • A day earlier, the Kerala High Court told Dulquer to seek provisional release of his seized vehicle from the Customs adjudicating authority, after 37 cars were earlier impounded under Operation Numkhor.
