Overview
- The Patna zonal office is leading coordinated searches across Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh with support from state police.
- Locations under search include Muzaffarpur and Motihari, Kolkata, Ernakulam, Pandalam, Adoor, Kodur, Chennai, Rajkot, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj and Lucknow.
- The scheme began under the Indian Railways banner but allegedly spanned the Forest Department, RRB, India Post, the Income Tax Department, high courts, PWD, the Bihar government, DDA and the Rajasthan Secretariat.
- The gang used email addresses mimicking government domains to send forged appointment and joining letters to job seekers.
- Some victims received two to three months of salary and were placed in roles such as RPF personnel, TTEs and technicians as the ED examines financial transactions and the roles of those accused.
