ED Freezes Nearly Rs 2,400 Crore in Raheja Developers Probe

Provisional attachment orders bar sale or transfer of properties while investigators trace alleged diversion of homebuyers’ funds into real estate.

Overview

  • The Enforcement Directorate issued a provisional attachment of Rs 782.36 crore in the Raheja Developers case, taking the cumulative attached value in that probe to about Rs 2,399.65 crore against reported collections of roughly Rs 2,425.99 crore from around 4,600 homebuyers.
  • The Raheja probe grew out of multiple Economic Offences Wing FIRs and targets company directors and associates accused of collecting buyers’ money and diverting substantial sums away from project completion.
  • ED’s Jalandhar zonal office attached properties worth Rs 187.13 crore in Goa, Delhi and Haryana in a transnational call‑centre fraud that investigators say used crypto wallets and shell firms to convert stolen US victims’ funds into Indian real estate.
  • The Agartala sub‑zonal office issued a provisional attachment of about Rs 1.05 crore in an alleged IPL betting syndicate, bringing total attachments in that case to around Rs 2.43 crore after earlier orders and searches dating back to 2023.
  • Together these actions show a common enforcement pattern where investigators use PMLA provisional attachment orders to freeze suspected proceeds of crime held in property while forensic tracing, inter‑agency checks and legal adjudication continue.
