ED Expands Asset Attachments in Two Major Bank‑Fraud Probes

The agency has frozen alleged proceeds to preserve funds while prosecution complaints proceed and forensic work seeks further beneficiaries.

Overview

  • The Enforcement Directorate on Monday provisionally attached movable and immovable assets worth Rs 53.95 crore in the Parekh Aluminex Ltd (PAL) case and immovable properties worth Rs 40.40 crore linked to Harish and Dhara Dedhiya in the DHFL probe.
  • The PAL attachment brings total ED seizures in that matter to about Rs 546 crore as the agency alleges PAL took loans using inflated stock and debtor statements that left a consortium with roughly Rs 2,296 crore in dues.
  • ED investigators say the JK Shah Group helped divert Rs 110.54 crore from the PAL loan proceeds and that one beneficiary received and used about Rs 70.25 crore.
  • In the DHFL case the ED says roughly Rs 11,549 crore was routed to 87 promoter‑controlled entities through a fictitious ‘Bandra’ branch and that lenders suffered an alleged wrongful loss of about Rs 34,615 crore.
  • The ED has filed prosecution complaints and chargesheets in the Special Court (PMLA) in Mumbai and is examining seized documents and forensic audits to identify more recipients and possible further attachments, though provisional PMLA seizures can be legally contested.
