ED Chargesheets Raj Kundra in GainBitcoin Case, Alleges He Holds 285 Bitcoins

The complaint before a special PMLA court moves the probe into prosecution over alleged crypto proceeds laundered via property transactions.

Overview

  • Investigators say Kundra is the beneficial owner of 285 Bitcoins worth about Rs 150.47 crore received from the late Amit Bhardwaj for a Ukraine mining plan that was never executed.
  • The ED alleges he withheld wallet addresses, failed to surrender the coins, and cited a damaged iPhone X in 2018 in what the agency views as destruction or concealment of evidence.
  • The chargesheet claims layering of proceeds through transactions with his wife, actor Shilpa Shetty, at far below market value to disguise the origin of funds and project them as legitimate.
  • The supplementary prosecution complaint also names Delhi-based businessman Rajesh Satija as a co-accused in the money-laundering case linked to Variable Tech/GainBitcoin.
  • Properties valued at Rs 97.78 crore, including five Juhu flats and a Pune bungalow, were provisionally attached in 2024, and the court will now decide on taking cognizance of the new filing.
