ED Carries Out Raids on Congress Leaders in Karnataka Over Valmiki Corporation Scam

Overview

  • ED teams searched eight premises in Bengaluru and Ballari linked to MP E. Tukaram, MLAs Nara Bharath Reddy, J. N. Ganesh, N. T. Srinivas and former Minister B. Nagendra under PMLA provisions.
  • The agency alleges roughly ₹187 crore was siphoned from the Karnataka Valmiki ST Development Corporation, with ₹89.62 crore routed through fake accounts across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
  • Approximately ₹20.19 crore of the diverted funds is suspected to have financed the 2024 Lok Sabha campaign in Ballari, including cash and alcohol distribution to voters.
  • Investigators questioned Tukaram, his wife MLA E. Annapurna and other legislators and examined a mobile-phone note detailing election-related expenditures.
  • On June 10, the ED attached 92 properties valued at ₹100 crore in the MUDA case linked to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah under money-laundering laws.
