Ed Brubaker and Amazon MGM Sued Over Hostile Set on Criminal

The complaint alleges sexual, racial and religious harassment, an on-set firearm incident and producer failures that could expose the studios to legal liability.

Overview

  • A production assistant, Ijaaz Noohu, filed a multi-count lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this week accusing showrunner Ed Brubaker, Amazon MGM Studios, Big Indie Pictures and others of creating and tolerating a hostile work environment.
  • The complaint alleges repeated sexual harassment and racist and religious taunts, and it claims Brubaker once aimed a working firearm at Noohu and pulled the trigger during production.
  • Noohu says he was retaliated against after raising concerns: his exit date was moved up, he was barred from set, his employment ended in September 2024 and he was left off the show’s credits.
  • The filing accuses executive producer Phillip Barnett and corporate defendants of ignoring complaints, discouraging documentation and failing to investigate conduct that multiple witnesses allegedly saw.
  • Criminal is an adaptation ordered to series in 2024 with Brubaker as showrunner, and the suit could prompt scrutiny of on-set safety, producer oversight and studio liability for future productions.
