Overview
- Polling will be held in the Punjab Assembly on Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
- Candidates may file nomination papers on Nov. 20â21 with the returning officer, with scrutiny to be completed by Nov. 25.
- Appeals against acceptance or rejection of nominations are due by Nov. 29, and withdrawals close on Dec. 1.
- The seat fell vacant after senior PML-N senator Irfan Siddiqui died on Nov. 10, leaving a key role open in the upper house.
- The vote comes soon after Parliament passed the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which drew support from some opposition senators including ANP, PTI-backed Saifullah Abro and JUI-Fâs Ahmed Khan.
